Six ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ Cardinals sign with four-year universities to play basketball
Gadsden, Ala. – Six ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ basketball players will continue their athletic career at four-year colleges.
Kintavious Dozier is continuing play at Grambling State University in Louisiana; Parker Godwin at Berry College in Rome, Ga.; Azaad Ben and Ryan Anderson, both at Oakwood University in Huntsville; D’Angelo Foster at Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock; and Morrez Calloway at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.
“I’m very proud of the accomplishments of these players,” said Deddric Tarver, head coach of the men’s basketball team. “They have all worked so hard on the court and in the classroom. I look forward to watching them succeed at the next level.”
Dozier is the most decorated player from the 2023 team. He led the nation in points per game with 27.8. He was third in the nation in total points for the season with 751, and he finished third overall in field goal shooting. He was selected as the Alabama Community College Conference North Division Co-Player of the Year. Dozier, who played guard, was also named to the First Team All-Region Team and the First Team All-North Team. ACCC announced on Nov. 15 that Dozier was the Player of the Week.
Dozier is on the Dean’s List for having at least a 3.5 GPA. He has been named to the ACCC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll twice for his academic success. On May 11, the Lanett, Ala., native earned a general studies degree at ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ.
“Kintavious is an exceptional young man,” Tarver said. “He not only excelled in basketball, but he surpassed many academically. I believe in him and know he will excel at Grambling State.”
Parker, a past Class 3A Player of the Year from Fyffe High School, has also proven to be a ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ success story.
“Parker has been an outstanding guy from Day 1,” his coach said. “He has demonstrated even more growth on a personal, athletic and professional level while attending ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ.”
At ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ, Godwin played in the guard position and was named ACCC Player of the Week twice. He also was on the Dean’s List once and the President’s List twice for a perfect 4.0 GPA. He was named to the ACCC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll three times. He recently received an associate degree in liberal arts.
“Parker is on the right track, and I believe he’ll stay on track,” Tarver said. “I know he will continue to evolve and flourish as a player at Berry College.”
Ben is returning to his hometown of Huntsville to play for the Oakwood University Ambassadors. The forward was named to the ACCC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll twice, and he earned an associate degree in general studies on May 11.
“Azaad is a well-mannered, hardworking young man,” Tarver said. “I always appreciated his effort and the positive attitude he brought to practice every day. I enjoy coaching players like him.”
Anderson, a guard, served as one of the ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ Cardinals’ team captains for the 2023 season. He was named to the ACCC Commissioners Academic Honor Roll for his success in the classroom. He recently was awarded an Associate in Science in general studies at ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ. The Huntsville native is joining teammate Ben at Oakwood University to continue his studies and his basketball career.
“I am going to miss Ryan’s drive and the energy he used to keep the team on the defense on the court,” Tarver said. “He worked hard at ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ, and I know he’ll do the same at Oakwood.”
Foster was a member of the ÃÈÃÃÊÓƵ basketball team during the 2022 season. During that time, he led the team in blocked shots. In 2023, he took a break from basketball to focus on his academics. He was on the Dean’s List and the ACCC Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. The Piedmont native recently earned a general studies degree.
“I know D’Angelo will continue to focus on his grades while cultivating his basketball skills at Arkansas Baptist College,” Tarver said. “I am so proud of his accomplishments.”
Calloway played forward for the 2023 basketball team. The Birmingham native will continue his career in Tuscaloosa at Stillman College.
“Morrez is a hard worker,” his coach said. “He worked constantly to improve his game throughout the year and even during the offseason. He has a lot to contribute to Stillman and will make a positive impact at the college.”
